In my paintings of figures, I am aiming to express more of the emotion and feeling behind the face or posture. My hope is that what you see is free and playful approach to the essence of the subject.

The challenge in every new piece is to convey the feeling, the energy, and the significance that draws me in.

When painting figures the likeness is a key part of the finished work. Each millimetre in the features as well as the posture can result in either a success or a composition that has not quite hit he target.

Within all of that is the need to stay true to one’s voice, to the familiar palette and to providing the unexpected in the painting.
